PRESS RELEASE

On September 28, 2021 shortly after 2:00 p.m., New York State Police at Margaretville were dispatched by Delaware County 911 to State Route 28 in Andes for a New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) truck struck by a vehicle.  Andes EMS also responded to the scene.

An investigation at the scene revealed that four DOT workers were in a truck retrieving cones in a work zone.  Two of the occupants of the DOT truck exited the vehicle when a 43-year-old male who was behind the truck failed to observe that the DOT truck stopped and subsequently rear ended it.

The 43-year-old male was not injured.  The driver of the DOT truck, a 53-year-old male sustained a shoulder injury but was not transported by ambulance.   A 24-year-old male passenger in the DOT truck was not injured.  Two DOT workers that had just stepped out to pick up signage were injured after they jumped over the guiderail; a 24-year-old male sustained a knee injury but was not transported by ambulance and a 27-year-old male sustained a laceration to the arm – he was transported by Andes EMS to O’Connor Hospital for further medical care.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted at the scene.  Impairment was not a factor in the crash.
