On June 26, 2020, State Police in Wilton arrested 37-year-old Nathaniel R. Barnes of Moreau, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree (B felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree (D felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (E felony), and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

State Police responded to a Moreau residence shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Friday for a report of a fight in progress. Investigation at the scene determined that Barnes was involved in an altercation with two unknown individuals over a suspected drug transaction. The unknown parties had left the scene prior to the arrival of police. Barnes was charged with child endangerment after it was discovered that the fight had taken place near his two young children.

While speaking with Troopers, Barnes was observed kicking a plastic baggie containing suspected cocaine in an attempt to conceal it. He was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Barnes was taken into custody and transported to SP Wilton for processing. He was released on an appearance ticket for Moreau Town Court on August 5, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.
