On July 31, 2022, at approximately 2:25 a.m., troopers observed a 2013 Audi S4 traveling on Southside Avenue in the town of New Paltz in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws. Troopers stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as Edwin Mendez, age 29 from New Paltz. While being interviewed troopers determined that Mendez was unlicensed and was impaired by alcohol, he was subsequently arrested. He refused to take a chemical test and was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 1st degree. Mendez was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of New Paltz Court on August 17, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

Later, that same day, at approximately 4:15 a.m. state police were patrolling on State Route 299 and observed a 2013 Audi S4 in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws. Troopers stopped the vehicle and recognized the operator as Edwin Mendez from his arrest approximately two hours earlier. Troopers observed Mendez to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with Felony DWI and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 1st degree. He was issued another appearance ticket for the Town of New Paltz Court returnable on August 17, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
