PRESS RELEASE

Pomfret, NY – On July 31, 2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m., State Police discovered a disabled vehicle on I-90 in the town of Pomfret.  While interviewing the driver, it appeared that the identification provided did not match the driver’s descriptors.  Upon requesting that the driver exit the vehicle, a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun was observed laying on the floorboard between the driver’s feet.  The driver of the vehicle, Carl A. Knight, 29, of Niagara Falls, NY, was then detained.  Further investigation revealed the handgun was loaded with one round in the chamber and Knight did not possess a valid pistol permit in any state.  A search of the vehicle also revealed a methamphetamine pipe with residue.

Knight was then taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Dunkirk.  He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (Possession of a Loaded Firearm other than in a person’s home/business); a Class C Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor.

Knight was transported to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.
