Update Saturday, April 25, 2020:

On Friday, April 24, 2020 the New York State Police and the Oneonta City Police Department investigated four gas station robberies in Otsego County.  Additionally, the New York State Police received two burglary complaints at local businesses in Otsego County. 

After the tireless efforts from members of the New York State Police and the Oneonta City Police Department working together, Bryan L. Ruple, age 41 of Otego was arrested for the four gas station robberies.  Two of the cases which occurred in the City of Oneonta are retained by the Oneonta City Police Department where they have their separate charges.  The two other gas station robberies are retained by the New York State Police.  Ruple was also arrested for the burglaries at Losie’s Gun Shop in the town of Davenport and the Dollar Tree in the town of Oneonta. 

The New York State Police also arrested Derrick Gray, age 41 of Laurens for his role in the robberies at the Mirabito in the town of Oneonta and the town of Otego. 

Below is the timeline of events that were handled by members from the New York State Police at Oneonta. 

On April 24, 2020, at approximately 12:57 a.m., members from the New York State Police were dispatched to a report of a break-in at Losie’s Gun Shop on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport.   A 911 caller reported that they heard banging in the area. Bryan R. Ruple was arrested on the class D Felony of Burglary in the third degree. 

At approximately 2:37 a.m., members of the New York State Police were then called to a report of a robbery at the Mirabito on State Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta.  The suspect demanded money and threatened that he had a gun.  An undisclosed amount of money was taken.  Bryan R. Ruple was arrested on the class B Felony of Robbery in the first degree.  Derrick Gray was arrested on the class C Felony of Robbery in the second degree. 

At approximately 5:38 a.m., members of the New York State police were dispatched to the Mirabito on County Road 48 in the town of Otego for a report of a robbery.  The suspect demanded money and threatened he had a gun.  Bryan R. Ruple was arrested for attempted Robbery in the first degree, a class B Felony.  Derrick Gray was arrested for attempted Robbery in the second degree, a class C Felony. 

At approximately 6:30 a.m., the troopers were dispatched to a reported break-in at the Dollar Tree on State Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta.  The store manager made the 911 call after arriving in the morning to start his shift to find the glass of the front door shattered.    Bryan R. Ruple was arrested on the class D Felony of Burglary in the third degree. 

Both Ruple and Gray were held overnight at the Oneonta City Police Department pending morning arraignment Saturday morning.  Further details will be released after the arraignments.

Original release: New York State Police are currently investigating two early morning robberies at gas stations in Otsego county.

At approximately 2:37 am, Friday a white or light skinned male suspect demanded money from the clerk at the Mirabito on State Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta.  At approximately 5:38 am, a male matching the same description demanded money from the clerk at the Mirabito on County Highway 48 in the town of Otego. 

The suspect is described as approximately 5’4” to 5’6”, wearing a surgical type mask and a dark sweatshirt.  The male did not display a weapon but did state he had one.
