PRESS RELEASE
 

On October 23, 2020 at approximately 5:33 p.m., New York State Police responded to a fatal crash on in the 3900 block of State Highway 206 in the town of Triangle. 

An investigation revealed that Kimberly Burdick, age 21 of Whitney Point, NY was traveling westbound on State Highway 206 and was passing two vehicles that were also traveling westbound when she came upon two motorcycles traveling eastbound. 

The operator of one motorcycle was able to take evasive action, swerve and lay his bike down.  He was transported to Wilson Hospital by Broome Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.  The operator of a second motorcycle was struck by Burdick head-on.  The operator, identified as Shane M. Poklemba, age 49 of Endwell was pronounced dead on scene.

Burdick and two children (an infant and two-year-old) in her vehicle were not injured.  They were evaluated at the scene by members from Broome Ambulance. 

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.  The Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Triangle Fire Company and the Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. 

The investigation is on-going, more will be released as the case develops.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
