Updated: NYSP investigates fire in Cuyler

 

 

 

Update (4/6/21): The victim is identified as Gary D. Stensland, age 65 of that address.  The cause of the fire and cause of death are still under investigation.  

 

On April 5, 2021 just after 10:00 a.m., New York State Police at Homer, members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Cuyler Fire Department and Truxton Fire Department were called to a suspicious fire on State Route 13 near Crains Mills Road in the town of Cuyler. 

One person was located deceased inside the residence.  No one else was inside. 

Several other fire agencies in Cortland County and Madison County responded.  The Cortland County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene. 

The New York State Forensic Identification Unit and State Fire also responded to the scene. 

The fire remains under investigation. 

The name of the person inside is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
