PRESS RELEASE

On July 16, 2020, at 2:12 p.m., State Police responded to a reported structure fire at 5384 Guy Young Road in the Town of Cicero.

The investigation revealed, an off-duty Syracuse Police Officer James Nowodworski, was on his way into work when he observed heavy smoke from the residence.  Officer Nowodworski approached the home and heard dogs barking from inside. After several negative attempts to make contact with anyone inside, he made entry into the home.

After a search of the home for residents was negative, he was able to rescue two dogs from the interior.

Members of the Brewerton Fire Department arrived on the scene and were able to quickly contain the fire to the garage area. No injuries to the dogs or first responders were reported.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and the Cicero Police Department.
