On Thursday, October 7, 2021, at approximately 6:05 am, a call came in for a wrong way driver on the Ocean State Parkway eastbound in the westbound lanes in the town of Babylon, Suffolk County. 


The troopers located the vehicle, and a pursuit was initiated.  The driver, Jose Cortez-Peraza, 21 of Akron, OH, was taken into custody after being blocked on the eastbound shoulder of the Ocean State Parkway, west of Robert Moses Causeway.


During the pursuit there was damage caused to four marked State Police vehicles and the suspect’s vehicle.  One trooper sustained minor injuries.      


Cortez-Peraza was charged with Driving While Impaired by Drugs (Misdemeanor),Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree (A-Misdemeanor), Reckless Endangerment of Property (B-Misdemeanor), Fleeing an  Officer 3rd degree (A-Misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief 4th degree (A-Misdemeanor), and Criminal Possession of Cannabis 3rd (A-Misdemeanor) and is held for arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court.
