PRESS RELEASE
 

The New York State Police and the Department of Transportation joined together on August 26, 2020 in Tioga County for “Operation Hardhat”.  The initiative took place on State Route 17 in the town of Nichols in an active work zone. During the initiative, a trooper dressed as a DOT worker, watches for violations such as speeding, operating a cellphone, not wearing a seatbelt or failing to follow the “Move Over” Law. 

 

A total of 19 tickets were issued:

Speeding – 4

Cell Phone Use - 3

No Seatbelt – 2

Other – 10

 

Motorists are urged to drive responsibly in work zones.  Please follow the posted signage.  Move over a lane, when it’s safely possible or whenever encountering vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights.
