Philmont, New York – On August 18, 2020, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Deven B. Hotaling, age 21, of Philmont, for Arson in the 2nd degree, a class B felony.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., Troopers were dispatched to Main Street and Church Street in the village of Philmont by Columbia County 911 for a disturbance.  While responding Columbia County 911 advised there was a fire at the location.  Philmont and Mellenville Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the flames. 

Investigation revealed Deven Hotaling set fire to a mattress stored under the porch of an occupied apartment building on Church Street.

Hotaling was arraigned before the town of Claverack Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.
