New York, New York – On August 15, 2021 at approximately 5:00 p.m., New York State Police Investigators arrested Richard McCormick, age 42, of Queens, New York for Manufacture, Transport, Disposition and Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances – a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree – a class D felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree – a class A misdemeanor.
McCormick was arrested following a traffic stop in Manhattan, with the assistance of the Port Authority Police Department. A search of his vehicle resulted in the discovery of numerous illegal high-capacity firearm magazines and ammunition. The investigation further led to the discovery of additional illegal high-capacity firearm magazines and ammunition after a search warrant for his local residence was executed by members of the Queens District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD. The arrest is the result of an investigation into the illegal transport of weapons and ammunition into New York State.
McCormick was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Manufacture-Transport-Disposition and Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree and New York City Administrative Code 10-131(i)(3). McCormick was arraigned and remanded in Queens Criminal Court and was scheduled to return to court on August 20, 2021.
