PRESS RELEASE

Cheektowaga, NY – On September 14, 2020, at approximately 11:15 p.m., State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on I-90 in the town of Pembroke, for a vehicle and traffic violation.  The driver failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued.  When the vehicle attempted to take the Depew exit, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and drove off the roadway.

When the vehicle became disabled, the driver and passenger fled on foot.  After a short foot pursuit, the male passenger, John T. Harmon, 55, of Rochester, NY was taken into custody.  It was determined that he had an active arrest warrant with the Department of Corrections for Parole Violations.  He was transported and turned over to the Erie County Holding Center.

Troopers were assisted on the scene by Erie County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit, who were able to track and quickly locate the driver, Theresa A. Gillette, 44, of East Rochester, NY, in a nearby wooded area.  Gillette was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Buffalo.

Further investigation revealed that Gillette had a non-driver ID only which had 15 suspensions and had multiple warrants for her arrest out of Monroe County.  She was subsequently charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd degree; both Unclassified Misdemeanors.

Gillette was issued several Vehicle and Traffic Tickets returnable to the Town of Newstead, Town of Clarence, Town of Lancaster, and Town of Cheektowaga Courts.  She was also issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Cheektowaga Court on October 9, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.  Gillette was then turned over to City of Rochester Police Department for multiple outstanding warrants.
