Major Jennifer Gottstine
   Troop T Commander

Schuyler, NY – On May 7, 2020, at approximately 4:30 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a van parked in the middle of the road on I-90 eastbound, in the town of Schuyler.  When Troopers arrived on scene, it was discovered that a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara, being operated by Jamie L. Davis, 43, of Rome, NY, had run out of gas and was parked in the driving lane with no lights on.  A tractor trailer from NC Enterprises LLC, being operated by Joseph B. Maxwell, 73, of Torrington, CT, struck the van from behind.  A second tractor trailer from Ruan Transport Corporation, operated by Gary C. Roe, 65, of Johnstown, NY, was unable to avoid the collision and struck the disabled tractor trailer.  Roe’s tractor then caught on fire causing all eastbound lanes to be closed for a period of time until Schuyler Fire Department could extinguish the fire and clear the scene.

During the investigation it was determined that Davis was intoxicated and had a suspended license.  Davis refused to communicate with Troopers on the scene and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital as a precaution.  While at the hospital, Davis refused to submit to a blood test to determine the alcohol content in her system.

Additionally, Davis has a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years and was subsequently charged with the Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st degree; both Class E Felonies, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations.

Davis was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Schuyler Court on June 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
