PRESS RELEASE
 
On Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at approximately 3 a.m., troopers from the Haverstraw barracks patrolling Interstate 87 in the town of Ramapo, stopped a 2006 Cadillac Deville for a vehicle and traffic law violation. While interviewing the occupants of the vehicle, Anthony Delaurie, age 43 of Gansevoort, NY, and the operator, Andrew Rocco, age 29, of Saratoga Springs, troopers observed the rear seat passenger, later identified as Daniel Jones, age 42 of Saratoga Springs, NY, holding a plastic bag with a unknown white substance, later identified as crack cocaine. Jones was asked to exit the vehicle, at that time he grabbed an open switch blade knife off of the seat next to him. He was told multiple times to drop the knife, he eventually complied and exited the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle he became irritated while being searched and refused to comply to orders by the troopers. Jones then ran from the scene and after a brief pursuit he was taken into custody. He was found to be in possession of 14 grams of Methamphetamine and 2.4 grams of crack cocaine. During a search of the vehicle troopers located additional crack-cocaine. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Orangetown Police Department and Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Anthony Delaurie was charged Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (misdemeanor) and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Ramapo Court returnable on August 20, 2020 at 9:15 a.m.
 
Andrew Rocco was issued vehicle and traffic law tickets and released.
 
Daniel Jones was charged with the following:
Tampering with Physical Evidence (felony)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree (felonies)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (misdemeanor)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (misdemeanor)
Obstruction of Governmental Administration (misdemeanor)
Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
He was virtually arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court in front of Judge Fried and remanded to Rockland County Jail. He has a return date of August 13, 2020 at 9:30 p.m. in the Town of Ramapo Court.
