On May 11, 2020, State Police in Wilton arrested 37-year-old Paul R. Etzel of Saratoga Springs, for Driving While Intoxicated-Two Previous Convictions (D felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st degree (E felony), Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree (A misdemeanor), and Use of a Vehicle Without Interlock Device (A misdemeanor).

Etzel was stopped for a traffic infraction as he travelled on I-87 in the Town of Moreau, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Monday. When the Trooper spoke with him, they smelled the odor of alcohol. Etzel was administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed, and while being interviewed he provided the Trooper with a false name. It was also determined that he was operating on a suspended license and that the vehicle he was driving did not have an interlock device as required.

Etzel was taken into custody and transported to SP Wilton where he refused to provide a breath sample to determine his blood alcohol content. Etzel was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and remanded to Saratoga County Jail without bail.
