The New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies will increase patrols to crack down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic infractions this 4th of July. State Troopers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and target reckless and aggressive driving statewide in an effort to keep New York highways safe during one of the busiest summer holidays for travel.
The New York State Police issued more than 8,900 tickets during a special traffic enforcement period over Memorial Day Weekend. During the campaign, which started on Friday, May 22 and ran through 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

State Police are investigating single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, on the Southern State Parkway westbound near Exit 41A in the town of Islip, Suffolk County.
On Wednesday October 16, a Hempstead man was arrested on multiple charges after continually hitting a woman’s car on the Southern State Parkway. He then then struck a responding New York State Parks Police vehicle, while they attempted to stop the ongoing incident on the Meadowbrook and Ocean State Parkways.

On Friday August 9, 2019 the State Police Special Investigations Unit arrested Brian J. Crook, age 33, of Freeport, NY, for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 2nd degree, a class A-II felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, a class D felony.
