New York State Police have arrested seven people who have been linked to a crime spree spanning across four different counties. 

In July, New York State Police announced that two men were arrested in connection with multiple burglaries in homes, seasonal residences and sheds located within Otsego, Delaware, Chenango and Madison counties.  Christopher J. Youngs Jr., age 23 of Maryland, NY and John B. Clark, age 27 of Morris, NY were arrested July 10, 2021.  Each were charged with the felony of Burglary in the second degree and misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree. 

Since the original arrests, State Police Investigators have lodged additional charges against Youngs Jr. and Clark. 

On August 4, 2021, Clark was charged with Burglary in the third degree and on September 8, 2021 Youngs Jr. was also charged with Burglary in the third degree for their role in a break-in of a garage and theft of tools in Roxbury. 

Five more people who were connected with Youngs and Clark have also been arrested. 

On July 29, 2021, New York State Police arrested Joseph F. Santiago Jr., age 32 of Burlington Flats, NY.  He was charged with the felony of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree.  Santiago was located in the Edmeston area after a report of a complaint of a suspicious vehicle.  An investigation revealed that he was in possession of several stolen firearms.  Santiago was later released on an appearance ticket to the Burlington Town Court on September 6, 2021.

In mid-July, a search warrant was executed at a residence owned by Charles O. Hall in New Lisbon.  Investigators located numerous stolen items from the string of burglaries.  The items included stolen guns, ammunition, tools and household items.  As a result of the findings at Hall’s home four people were arrested on August 24, 2021. 

Charles O. Hall, age 32 of Edmeston, NY was arrested for the felony of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree.  He was issued an appearance ticket Brookfield Town Court on September 21, 2021.  Hall was also charged with the felony of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and issued appearance tickets to the New Lisbon Town Court on September 22. 

Kayla L. VanPelt, age 23 of Edemeston, NY was arrested for the felony of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree and issued an appearance ticket Brookfield Town Court on September 21, 2021.  She was also charged with the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and issued an appearance ticket to the Edmeston Town Court on September 20.

Henry W. Schmidt, age 59 of Garrattsville, NY was arrested for the felony of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree.  He was issued appearance tickets to the New Lisbon Town Court on September 8, 2021.  Schmidt was charged with the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and issued an appearance ticket to the Laurens Town Court on September 16, 2021.   Schmidt was also charged with the Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and issued appearance tickets to the Otego Town Court on September 16, 2021.

Samuel A. Madero, age 56 of Morris, NY was arrested on August 24, 2021 for the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and issued appearance tickets to the New Lisbon Town Court on September 8, 2021.

All seven individuals have been linked to over 40 different cases between the New York State Police, local Sheriff’s departments and local police departments.  More charges are likely as investigators continue to work through the open cases.
