On March 28, 2021 at approximately 11:26 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Anthony CM Masi, age 29 of Sidney, NY for the felonies of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (with a prior conviction within 10 years) and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree. He was also charged with the misdemeanors of Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.
Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle on James F. Lettis Highway after they observed vehicle and traffic infractions. The operator of the vehicle failed to comply and continued to make traffic infractions while traveling onto Interstate 88.
Troopers from SP Sidney were advised of the vehicle description and that Masi was operating the vehicle. Masi was spotted by troopers from SP Sidney and operating at a high rate of speed in the village of Unadilla. Masi’s vehicle lost a front tire and continued down numerous roads before his vehicle became disabled on Willow Street in the village of Sidney. Masi refused to comply with trooper’s commands and resisted arrest. He was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of a New York State Police K9. Masi was evaluated on scene by Sidney EMS and transported by ambulance to AO Fox Memorial Hospital.
An investigation revealed that he was operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs, does not possess a driver’s license, was in possession of switched plates and in possession of suspected drugs.
Masi was issued appearance tickets to the town of Oneonta court on April 6, 2021. He was additional issued an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor of Resisting Arrest to the village of Sidney court on April 22, 2021. After processing, Masi was released to a sober third party.
