Ramapo, NY – On January 29, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m., State Police responded to a one car property damage crash on I-87 in the town of Ramapo.  A preliminary investigation determined the uninjured driver, Robert J. Rykowski, 58, of Sloatsburg, NY, lost control of a 2012 Volvo S60 while traveling northbound and struck the center barrier.

Rykowski was found to be intoxicated and had a suspended license.  He was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Tarrytown where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.21%.  

Additionally, Rykowski has a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years and is required to operate a vehicle with an ignition interlock device.  As a result, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st degree; all Class E Felonies and Operating a Motor Vehicle with No Ignition Interlock Device; a Class A Misdemeanor.

Rykowski was released to a sober third party with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Ramapo Court on February 24, 2022 at 9:15 a.m.
