Update 3:30 p.m.: New York State Troopers in Troop "C" were busy responding to numerous accidents and disabled vehicles during the snowstorm from late January 16 through the afternoon of January 17.  Troop "C" encompasses seven counties which include: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tompkins and Tioga.  No major incidents were reported.  

 

  • 1/16 – 5:15 p.m., State Route 89 and Glenwood Pines, Ithaca – property damage (car vs. deer)
  • 1/16 – 6:56 p.m., State Highway 28, Milford – property damage (car vs. deer)
  • 1/16 – 8:33 p.m., State Highway 28, Middletown – one vehicle property damage (alcohol involved, no injuries reported)  
  • 1/16 - 8:36 p.m., Interstate 81, Barker – car off roadway, property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/16 – 9:10 p.m., Gee Hill Road, Dryden – 2 vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/16 - 10:17 p.m., Interstate 81 exit 3, Kirkwood – vehicle off roadway, property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/16 - 10:18 p.m.,  Buffalo Road, Brooktondale – vehicle off roadway (property damage, no injuries reported)
  • 1/16 - 11:14 p.m., Forest Home, Ithaca – report of disabled vehicle
  • 1/17 - 12:28 a.m., County Road 1 and Old Hill Road, Unadilla – vehicle off roadway (no damage)
  • 1/17 - 12:56 a.m., Alexander Street, Endicott – vehicle in snowbank (no damage, no injuries reported)
  • 1/17 - 1:11 a.m.,  State Highway 17, Hancock – vehicle off roadway, property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/17 - 1:55 a.m., State Highway 17, Hancock – vehicle unable to get up hill
  • 1/17 - 1:55 a.m., Intestate 81, Cortlandville - one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/17 - 2:19 a.m., State Highway 17, Hancock – vehicle off roadway, property damage (no injuries reported).

  • 1/17 - 11:00 a.m., State Highway 17, Dickinson – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 1/17 - 11:08 a.m., Interstate 81 exit 12 off ramp, Homer – disabled vehicle, mechanical issue
  • 1/17 - 11:12 a.m., Mecklenburg Road, Ithaca – disabled vehicle
  • 1/17 - 11:25 a.m., Interstate 81, Lisle – vehicle disabled in snow embankment
  • 1/17 - 12:46 p.m., Interstate 81, Barker – vehicle disabled, flat tire.
  • 1/17 - 2:27 p.m., Interstate 81 n/b exit 9 off ramp, Marthon – one vehicle into guardrail (property damage, no injuries reported).  
   
Update: As of 11:00 a.m., on January 17, 2022, no major incidents to report on the roadways.  Troopers continue to respond to reports of cars off the road and property damage accidents.  
 
  • 5:09 a.m., County Road 20, Smyra – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 5:45 a.m., Interstate 81, Virgil – disabled tractor trailer blocking right lane.
  • 6:22 a.m., State Highway 17, Roscoe/Colchester – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 6:48 a.m., Peruville Road, Lansing – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 7:19 a.m., Interstate 81, Virgil – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 7:21 a.m, State Highway 8, Deposit – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 8:36 a.m., Interstate 88, Unadilla – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 9:03 a.m., Interstate 81, Cuyler – two vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 9:07 a.m., State Highway 17, Nichols – two vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)
  • 9:47 a.m., Interstate 88, Sidney – one vehicle into guiderail (property damage, no injuries reported)
  • 10:05 a.m., State Highway 23, Davenport – one vehicle into snowbank (property damage, no injuries reported)
  • 11:00 a.m., State Highway 17, Dickinson – one vehicle property damage (no injuries reported)

 

Update: 6:49 a.m., - Lane reopened. -- 5:50 a.m., Interstate 81 north in Virgil - right lane closed (milemarker 42) due to jack knifed tractor trailer. 
  
Update: As of 5:30 a.m., January 17, 2022 major roadways in the seven counties of Troop “C” are snow covered, with slush in most areas.   Overnight, troopers in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins have responded to a total of 6 disabled vehicles and 11 accidents.

If you have to go out, please drive with caution.  

 

Original release: As of 10:00 p.m., January 16, 2022 roads in the seven counties of Troop “C” begin to become snow covered.   Troop “C” counties include: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins. 

No major incidents have been reported. 

If you can avoid going out, stay home.  Remember if you plan to head out:

  • Be prepared – make sure you have a full gas tank, a shovel, an emergency kit with extra clothes, blankets and water
  • Give yourself extra time.
  • Clean snow and ice off your vehicle.
  • Slow down!  
  • Give other driver’s space, especially to snowplows
  • Wear your seatbelt
