PRESS RELEASE
 

Saugerties, NY – On February 6, 2022, at approximately 3:50 p.m., State Police responded to the Malden Service Area on I-87 in the town of Saugerties for a report of a physical altercation.  Following an investigation, it was determined that a male patron engaged in a verbal argument with Angel Carrera Gomez, 28, of Spartanburg, SC, over Gomez not wearing a mask.  The altercation escalated and Carrera Gomez punched the male in the face causing him to fall on the ground and strike his head.  As a result, the victim sustained abrasions to his face and his eyeglasses and watch were damaged. 

Carrera Gomez was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Kingston where he was charged with Assault 3rd degree and Criminal Mischief 4th degree; both Class A Misdemeanors. He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Saugerties Court on February 23, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
