UPDATE: At approximately 12:40 pm, State Police Underwater Recovery Team members located the body of 61-year-old Andrew L. Kirby using sonar in approximately 50-feet of water in Highlands Forge Lake. Kirby was pronounced deceased by Essex County Coroner Jay Heald and removed to University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. 





On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at approximately 3:20 p.m. State Police responded to a report of a missing person in Willsboro. At approximately 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 61-year-old Andrew L. Kirby left his home to go swimming in Highlands Forge Lake and had not been seen or heard from since he set out.

State Police are utilizing several assets in the search for Kirby, including both uniform and members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Aviation, K9 members, the Special Operations Response Team, and the Underwater Recovery Team. The Keeseville Fire Department, Willsboro/Essex Fire Departments, Reber Fire Department, and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department are also assisting in the search for Kirby.  Search operations ended on Tuesday at approximately 9:30 p.m. with negative results. Search efforts started again on July 15, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. Further information will be released as it is available.
