On October 30, 2022, troopers in Rochester attempted to stop a motorist for a traffic violation on Hollenbeck street in the city of Rochester. The operator failed to comply and attempted to flee.  

Troopers pursued the vehicle and observed a handgun being thrown from the driver’s side window. That handgun, a Glock 44, .22 caliber, fully loaded with a 17 round magazine, was secured by another trooper involved in the pursuit.

The operator of the vehicle pulled over shortly after this occurred and both occupants were taken into custody. 

The operator, was identified as Darrel Spearman, age 51, and the passenger, Eric Thomas, age 43. 

Both individuals were arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree - (previous conviction), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree - (with loaded 17 round magazine), and Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.
