On January 15, 2023, State Troopers were on Lake Avenue in the city of Rochester and observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Lake Avenue with no headlights. Troopers stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as Mackenzie Mcfarland, of Rochester.
When Mcfarland attempted to get paperwork for the vehicle, troopers observed a handgun in the glovebox.
Both McFarland, and passenger, Tyjuan Mason, of Canandaigua, who is on parole for previous weapons charges, were detained for the illegal possession of the gun. The handgun was identified as a Beretta APX 9mm loaded with a 17 round magazine.
Mcfarland failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested for DWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.11%.
Mason and Mcfarland were both arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, for possessing a loaded firearm with a large capacity feeding device. Mason was additionally arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree due to his prior conviction of Criminal Possession of Weapon.
