On July 5, 2020, at approximately 7:11 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a bias-related crime in a wooded area off of Brown Road in the town of Plattsburgh.

An individual identified as 35-year-old Derrick S. Kennedy of Altona, punched the hood of a car, causing damages after he made racial slurs toward an occupant in the vehicle.

Kennedy was charged with Criminal Mischief 4th degree as a hate crime. He was arraigned in front of Plattsburgh City Court where he was released on his own recognizance.  Kennedy is due to reappear in the Town of Plattsburgh Court at a later date.
