On September 10, 2020 State Police Catskill arrested Edward A. Russell Jr, age 36 of the town of Durham following an unprovoked altercation. Investigation revealed the Russell approached an individual in the town of Catskill on Jefferson Heights and pulled a knife from its sheath and pointed it at that person. While pointing the knife at him, he stated that he was going to kill him and his father. Russell attempted several times to kick the individual while waving the knife at him. Russell then sheathed his knife and walked away from the area. Russell was contacted by state police and responded to the state police barracks in Catskill. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (prior convictions), a felony and Menacing 2nd degree, a misdemeanor. Russell was arraigned at the Town of Catskill Court in front of Judge Jacobs. He was issued an Order of Protection and was released on his own recognizance.
