State Police arrest Greenfield woman following a welfare check

On March 6, 2023, State Police of Clifton Park arrested Pamela I. Backus, 49, of Greenfield, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, Driving While Intoxicated, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.  

On March 6, 2023, at about 11:12 a.m. Trooper responded to the I-87 rest area parking lot in Clifton Park, NY, to check a vehicle operator’s welfare after receiving a report from a bystander of the person possibly having a medical event in a vehicle. Troopers located the vehicle described and identified Backus as the operator.  Following an EMS evaluation, Backus was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. The investigation discovered felony-weight narcotics and other controlled substances in the vehicle.  Backus was also found to have a previous conviction of DWI in the last ten years.

Backus was transported to SP Clifton Park for processing, where she was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). A sample was obtained from Backus upon completion of the evaluation to determine the drug content of her blood. She was issued tickets returnable to the Clifton Park Town Court on March 15, 2023, and released.
