State Police arrest Moira man on charges including Arson 4th degree

On July 5, 2021, State Police arrested Ryan Dumas, 26, of Moira, for Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Arson 4th  degree and Unlawful Possession of Fireworks.

A preliminary investigation revealed Dumas was setting off fireworks at a home on County Route 22 on July 4, 2021, when a neighboring camper was set on fire by the fireworks. 

Dumas suffered minor burns attempting to put the fire out. The residents of the camper were able to get out of the camper safely, one taken to a local hospital for difficulty breathing. 

Dumas, a NYS Correction Officer who was off-duty, was issued appearance tickets returnable July 19, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. in the town of Moira Court. .
