Town of Wawayanda - On March 12, 2022, at approximately 9:48 p.m. state troopers from the Greenville barracks (Orange County) were dispatched for a wrong way vehicle that entered Interstate 84 west at exit 1. The driver was driving eastbound in the westbound lane. While looking for the vehicle multiple 911 calls reported near misses with a dark colored vehicle driving the wrong way on I-84. Troopers observed the vehicle, a 2004 Honda Pilot. Troopers were able to stop the vehicle at exit 15 (old exit 3). The operator was identified as Rosalinda Lucero, age 30 of Newburgh, NY. While being interviewed by troopers it was determined that Lucero was impaired by alcohol. She also had two minors in the vehicle, ages 8 and 5 that were not seat belted.
She was arrested and charged with Felony DWI, Aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law), and the misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, a misdemeanor. She was also issued 10 vehicle and traffic law citations. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Wawayanda Court on April 28, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.
