On July 4, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Trooper on bicycle patrol at the annual 4th of July celebration at the Empire State Plaza in Albany observed a subject setting off roman candle fireworks in an area crowded with people, just as the evening’s fireworks display was getting underway.
 
The subject, an 18-year old male, resisted arrest, punching the Trooper in the face. A second subject, also an 18-year old male, joined the scuffle, also punching the Trooper. Additional Troopers arrived on the scene and after a brief struggle, took both subjects into custody.
 
One of the 18-year old males is charged with Assault 2nd degree, a class D felony, Criminal Mischief 4th degree and Resisting Arrest, both class A misdemeanors.

The second 18-year old male is charged with Assualt 2nd degree, a class D felony, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree and Resisting Arrest, both class A misdemeanors.

An 18-year old female was also charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Two Troopers were treated for minor injuries.
