PRESS RELEASE
 
On August 22, 2022, at approximately 8:14 a.m. State Troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to a residence in the town of Mamakating for a report of a domestic disturbance. Troopers arrested Joseph Callas, age 20 from Bloomingburg. Investigation revealed that Callas threatened the victim with a machate and physically and sexually assaulted the victim. He was charged with Rape 3rd degree, a felony. He was additionally charged with the misdemeanors Menacing 2nd degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Assault 3rd degree, and Unlawful Dissemination or publication of an intimate image.
 
Callas was arraigned before Judge Mullen in the Town of Mamakating Court. He was remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash, $70,000 bond, $120,000 partially secured bond.
