PRESS RELEASE

On March 14, 2021, state police from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to a 911 call for a report of a road range incident on State Route 17 in Wurtsboro. Investigation revealed that an individual operating a red Honda Civic Del Sol was driving in an erratic manner and menacing the operator of another vehicle. The vehicles exited State Route 17 at exit 112. The operator of the Honda, later identified as Ricardo Appling, age 34 of Wurtsboro stopped his vehicle and prevented the other vehicle from passing. He then exited his vehicle and retrieved a crowbar and approached the other vehicle. The operator of the other vehicle was able to flee the area while speaking to 911. Troopers were able to locate the red Honda and identified Appling as the operator and the individual involved in the incident.  He was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, a felony and Menacing 2nd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors. He was arraigned at the Town of Mamakating Court in front of Judge Dolan and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail. Appling has a return date of March 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.
