State Police in Horseheads investigate fatal car vs pedestrian hit and run.

On November 11, 2022, at approximately 5:05 p.m., the State Police responded to a report of a car vs pedestrian serious injury accident hit and run on St-Rte 14 in the town of Horseheads.

When troopers arrived, they discovered an individual with serious injuries and life saving techniques were performed.  The adult male, later identified as, Jon Gearhart. age 44, was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center were he was pronounced deceased.

Gearhart was driving on St-Rte 14 when he pulled over and attempted to remove a deer carcass from the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle, and the operator of that vehicle, drove away from the scene.

The State Police closed St-Rte 14 for several hours and reopened the roadway at approximately 9:40 p.m.

The investigation is continuing, and State Police are asking anyone with information to call the State Police in Canadaigua at 585-398-4100.
