PRESS RELEASE

On June 27, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m., State Police responded to Bull Road in the town of Schuyler, Herkimer County for a reported child that was struck by a vehicle in the driveway.

The investigation has determined the mother and the victim (her daughter) had just arrived home from getting groceries.  The mother was carrying groceries into the house while her daughter was playing on an outdoor playset.  After taking all the groceries inside, the mother began to pull her SUV forward to park when the child ran in front of the vehicle.  As the mother pulled forward,  she drove over her daughter and upon hearing and feeling the impact jumped out and immediately ran to where her daughter was lying unresponsive in the driveway.  She immediately picked her daughter up and took her inside to begin rendering aid, and called 911.

The 18-month-old victim was transported by Kunkel ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica where she was pronounced deceased.

The investigation is continuing, no charges are expected against the driver.
