UPDATE: Following an autopsy completed on June 8, 2021, the victim was positively identified as 66-year-old Michael A. Bregg of Norfolk. Medical Examiner Doctor Samuel A. Livingstone determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to warm water drowning. The manner of death has been ruled as accidental.
Original release: On June 6, 2021, at approximately 4 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a body in the water on the Raquette River just north of the village of Norfolk, near the Norfolk Raquette River Campground. Tentatively, the investigation revealed that the male victim was involved in a boating accident. There is no sign of foul play. The body was removed to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where an autopsy is scheduled for June 8, 2021. This investigation is ongoing.
