Tonawanda, NY – On Saturday, September 18, 2021, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the State Police received a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on I-190 in the town of Tonawanda, Erie County.

A preliminary investigation determined that Lydia M. Grigsby, 21, of Dayton, MD, was traveling southbound on I-190 with passenger, Christian A. McCracken, 21, of Sykesville, MD, when they became involved in a verbal dispute.  Grigsby pulled over onto the shoulder of the road in the area of exit 15 and McCracken exited the vehicle.  Shortly after, McCracken was walking in the roadway for an unknown reason when he was struck by a 2016 Dodge Ram driven by Kevin P. Murphy, 30, of Buffalo, NY. 

McCracken was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Erie County Medical Examiner.  No other injuries were reported.  The crash remains under investigation.
