On April 4, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the State Police in Horesheads responded to a 1 vehicle fatal accident on Mountain View Drive in the town of Southport, Chemung County.

The operator, Cheryl Picarazzi, age 32, from Pine City was traveling eastbound on Mountain View Drive when the passenger vehicle she was operating failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway.  The vehicle struck multiple trees causing extensive damage. 

The front seat passenger, her father, Robert Perry, age 69, from Elmira Heights, who was seat belted was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA for serious injuries.

The backseat passenger, her mother, Karen Lamb, age 58, from Elmira, who was in the passenger back seat, and not seat belted was transported to Arnot Ogden Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Picarazzi was transported to Robert Packer Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.


Investigators believe speed was a factor and Picarazzi was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Additional charges are pending and the investigation is continuing.
