On July 6, 2022, at approximately 2:59 p.m., the State Police responded to a call of a serious accident on State Route 417 in the town of Addison.

Prior to that accident call, several calls were made to both the Chemung County 911 Center, and the Steuben County 911 Center, of an erratic driver on I-86 westbound in the town of Corning.

Investigators believe that the deceased motorist, and lone occupant, later identified as Susan Elston, age 51, from Elmira, was driving erratically on I-86 and erratically on State Route 417 prior to the crash.

Elston who was traveling westbound, moved across the center lane and struck an eastbound vehicle.
