On August 9, 2020, at approximately 12 p.m. State Police responded to the intersection of Stickney Bridge Road and Hazen Road in the town of Jay for a report of an automobile accident involving a motorcycle.

An investigation at the scene revealed that a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 71-year-old Stephen N. Croxton of Ausable Forks, was traveling north on Stickney Bridge Road, when his motorcycle ran off the eastern shoulder and struck the earth embankment. The collision caused him to eject over the handlebars. Croxton was conscious and breathing on scene following the crash. He was transported to the University of Vermont Health Network at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh for treatment. However, Croxton succumbed to injuries while at the hospital. This remains under investigation.
