In connection with the crash of the marked troop car, the New York State Police have arrested Gerald Breitfeller, 45 years old of Ronkonkoma, NY. Breitfeller was the driver of the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired Combined Drugs/Alcohol, Operation Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs 1st Degree, Assault 3rd Degree (3 counts), and Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree (2 counts).
He is being held and scheduled to be arraigned at Nassau County First District Court Friday morning.
The State Police have identified the Trooper as Joseph Potucek, who is a 12-year veteran of the State Police and is currently assigned to the Traffic Incident Management Detail.

On Thursday, August 6, 2020, at approximately 11:27 am, a New York State Police Trooper was parked on the southbound shoulder of the Wantagh State Parkway in the town of Hempstead.
The trooper, assigned to the Traffic Incident Management Unit, was seated inside his marked patrol car when it was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Blazer.
The trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Blazer was uninjured.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
