State Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred on I-87 northbound in the town of Malta.

At approximately 1:36 p.m. on April 27, 2021, State police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in a marked work zone on I-87 northbound, south of Exit 12.

The preliminary investigation has determined that 84-year-old Sherburne Hill III of Latham, was traveling through a Department of Transportation work zone on I-87 north when he collided with another northbound vehicle. Hill is believed to have overcorrected and struck 56-year-old Alexander Marin of Ballston Spa, who is a DOT employee and was on foot at the time. Hill also stuck an attenuator truck occupied by 49-year-old David J. Curry of Clifton Park, and a DOT pickup truck occupied by 33-year-old Aaron T. Gagliardi of Troy.

Marin sustained serious injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. Gagliardi sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Albany Medical Center.

Hill was transported to Albany Medical Center with minor injuries. No criminal charges have been lodged at this time.

The crash remains under investigation
