PRESS RELEASE

Rye, NY –  On December 27, 2022, at approximately 4:15 a.m., State Police responded to I-287 and the I-95 ramps in the city of Rye, for a report of a serious injury crash between a tractor trailer and a box truck.

A preliminary investigation determined that Kevin J. Roman, 26, of Levittown, PA, was operating a tractor trailer eastbound on I-287 when he exited the roadway and struck a box truck that was disabled on the shoulder.  The crash claimed the life of 65-year-old Richard K. Bradwell, of White Plains, NY, who was outside of the vehicle, adding coolant to the box truck at the time of the collision.  Bradwell suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Greenwich Hospital, CT, where he was pronounced deceased.  A passenger in the box truck, Jane Murray, 62, of White Plains, NY, along with Roman, were transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.  A passenger in the tractor trailer, Israel Velez, 57, of Bristol, PA, was transported to Stamford Hospital, CT, for serious non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers out of New Rochelle were assisted on scene by Troop K BCI, CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit), CVEU (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit), and Thruway Maintenance.  The crash remains under investigation.
