Salina, NY – On October 13, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., State Police responded to a rollover crash involving two tractor trailers on I-90 in the town of Salina, Onondaga County.
The crash occurred at mile marker 286.4, which is within a work zone. A preliminary investigation determined that Hussein E. Hussein, 29, of Columbus, OH, was traveling westbound when he lost control on the wet roads. Hussein’s tractor trailer struck the jersey barrier and continued over top of it, striking a tractor trailer traveling eastbound, and overturning. Both the driver of the second tractor trailer, Andrae D. Delisser, 43, of Jamaica, NY, and Hussein, were transported to Upstate University Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash caused all eastbound and westbound lanes to be closed for an extended period of time. Traffic diversions were in place at exits 36 (I-81) and 39 (I-690). Due to the location of the crash being in a work zone, space was limited, and there were no shoulders to clear the queue of traffic. Troopers assisted motorists who were in need of water during the delays.
Once significant clean-up and recovery efforts were completed, all remaining vehicles in the queue were cleared. The diversions remained in place until the tractor trailers were removed and several damaged barriers were replaced by the contractor for the work zone.
The Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene to assist with clean up of approximately 200 gallons of spilled diesel. All lanes reopened by approximately 3:40 Friday morning. The crash remains under investigation.
