PRESS RELEASE

 

The New York State Police, at the request of Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood is investigating an officer involved shooting incident that occurred in the Chittenango Falls State Park in the town of Fenner, Madison County.

 

The preliminary investigation has determined State Police, State Park Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the State Park for a reported male with a weapon.  Responding officers located 37-year-old Timothy J. Bodley inside the park making suicidal threats.  Law enforcement officials attempted to calm Bodley and engage him in communications.  Bodley continued to threaten law enforcement with what appeared to be a handgun. 

 

After almost an hour of making verbal threats, Bodley raised the weapon at officers, causing a Deputy from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to fire his service weapon, striking Bodley in his lower abdomen and leg.  Bodley was airlifted to Upstate University in Syracuse where is currently is in surgery and is listed in stable condition.

 

The investigation is continuing.
