Update 8/25/21: The driver is identified as Paul Fridley, age 64 of Fenton, Missouri.  

Update 10:09 p.m.: Roadway is now open. 


Original Release: New York State Police are investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 south in the town of Triangle. 

On August 24, 2021 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to a 911 report of a vehicle on its side and on fire in the rock cut near mile post marker 26.  One person is confirmed deceased. 

Troopers are looking for any witnesses that may have seen the vehicle on Intestate 81 south.  The vehicle is a black Kia Sedona with Missouri license plates. 

If you witnessed the vehicle on 81 south just before 6:15 p.m. or saw it crash, please call New York State Police at (607)775-1241

Interstate 81 southbound is currently closed between exits 8 (Whitney Point) and 7 (Castle Creek).
