PRESS RELEASE
 

On October 15, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a male with a gunshot wound at a camp on Green Valley Road in the town of Mooers. An investigation revealed that 30-year-old Frederick W. Minckler Jr. of Altona, accidentally shot 51-year-old Gilbert O. Rabideau of Mooers, in the neck while he was inspecting his firearm inside the camp. Rabideau was transported to the University of Vermont Health Network at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh and later taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont for further treatment. He is currently in serious but fair condition. 

Minckler was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Assault 2nd degree. He was arraigned in the Mooers Town Court and released under pretrial release, to reappear on October 21, 2021.  

State Police were assisted by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and United States Border Patrol.
