During the month of October, the New York State Police on Long Island removed 110 intoxicated/impaired drivers from the roadway.  There were 6,830 total summonses issued, of which 2,182 were for speeding, 355 were for distracted driving, 231 were for safety restraints, and 49 were for move over violations.


Also, during the month of October, the State Police responded to 659 motor vehicle crashes, 516 were property damage, 143 with injuries and 1 fatality.


The State Police reminds the motoring public to drive sober, drive the posted speed limit, drive hands free, wear your seatbelt (including all back-seat passengers) and slow down and move over for any emergency or hazard vehicle with its lights activated.
