PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police and the Department of Transportation joined together on August 25 and 26, 2020, in Essex County for “Operation Hardhat”.  The initiative took place on I-87 in the town of Chesterfield in an active work zone. During the initiative, troopers dressed as DOT workers watch for violations such as speeding, distracted driving, not wearing a seatbelt or failing to follow the “Move Over” Law. 

 A total of 57 tickets were issued:

Speeding – 11

No Seatbelt –7

Cell Phone Use - 2

Move Over - 1

Other – 36

Motorists are urged to drive responsibly in work zones.  Please follow the posted signage.  Move over a lane, when it’s safely possible or whenever encountering vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights.
