On October 15, 2021, the New York State Police in Latham arrested 23-year-old Kymere Thomas of Watervliet for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C felony), Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree (E felony), Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree (A misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 7th degree (A misdemeanor). State Police also charged 28-year-old Tasheen McGriff of Cohoes for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (A misdemeanor).

McGriff was stopped by State Police at the intersection of Quail Street and Third Street in Albany late Friday morning after the vehicle he was driving was reported to have been involved in a possible burglary. Troopers were interviewing the occupants of the vehicle when front seat passenger, Kymere Thomas, fled on foot and was seen discarding a handgun as he ran.

Troopers took Thomas into custody following a brief foot chase and retrieved the loaded, 9mm handgun which further investigation determined was stolen. During a search of the vehicle Troopers located a several tablets of oxycodone. Both men were taken into custody and transported to SP Latham for processing.

Thomas was arraigned in Albany City Court and remanded to Albany County Jail on $30,000 cash or $60,000 bond. McGriff was remanded to Albany County Jail on a parole hold.
